Each year Allington Castle Archers (ACA) of Maidstone run two indoor Worcester/Portsmouth tournaments, with the Worcester round being shot in the morning and the Portsmouth being shot in the afternoon.  The atmosphere at these tournaments is always friendly thanks to the great team from ACA and the amazing judging team.  At this year’s spring shoot, held on Sunday 15th February 2015, 4 members of Ashford Archers entered, two recurve archers, Tim Miller and Rachel Bristow and two compound archers, Mark Hollyer and one of our juniors Oliver Bourne (Ollie).

Having only taken up archery last summer this was only the 2nd tournament, and the first outside of Ashford Archers, that Rachal had entered.  Feeling very self-conscious Rachel opted not to wear her new Ashford Archers top, opting instead for Archery GB compliant everyday clothing. As it turned out being conspicuous on the line was the least of her worries, against some very experienced lady recurve archers, Rachel claimed the Gold Medal for the Worcester Round and Silver in the Portsmouth and First overall, congratulation Rachel let’s hope it’s the first of many.

In the junior boys’ compound completion, young Oliver Bourne had some stiff competition from a young man from Aim Archery of Battle, East Sussex.  Ollie took Gold in both the Worcester and Portsmouth rounds and first overall.  Well done once again Ollie.

Both Mark and Tim faced very tough opponents, with them both up against some very good archers, including a current county champion and county team.  Both acquitted themselves well and enjoyed the day.
